There was confusion in Calabar, Cross River State yesterday as the
body of Captain Peter Kayode Bello (Jr.) did not arrive the Margaret
Ekpo International Airport for burial.
Bello, who was a co-pilot in the Bristow helicopter which crashed on
August 12 in Lagos, was slated to be buried in Calabar yesterday, but
journalists who had thronged the airport, went home disappointed after
they were informed that there was an unstated problem in Lagos.
Notwithstanding this, the funeral mass which was supposed to be held
in his honour still went ahead at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church,
Ikot Ansa in Calabar. Curiously, the mass, officiated by Very Rev. Fr.
Patrick Corcoran, the Parish Priest, had the two parents of the late
pilot in attendance, with other family members, leaving observers to
wander what might have happened in Lagos.
