One shot, two arrested as police, robbers clash

A suspected robber was shot and two others arrested after a prolonged gun battle between their gang and Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command at the Abule Egba area of the state.

Recovered from the suspected armed robbers were one locally made pistol, eight rounds of live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

The policemen were said to have acted on information they received on August, 3, 2015, alerting them that a gang of robbers were planning to embark on a robbery operation.

The SARS team moved into action and cordoned off the gang’s hideout at Super area of Abule Egba, immediately they saw the policemen they engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for some hours.

In the gun battle, one of the robbery suspects, Shinko was hit on his leg, while Akeem Akinsanya, another member, was arrested.

The Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP, Patricia Amadin, confirmed the incident, adding that the wounded suspect had been taken to the Ikeja General Hospital for proper medical attention.
