Police exhume abducted AAU lecturer’s body

Policemen attached to the Edo State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), yesterday exhumed the decomposing body of an associate professor at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Dr Paul Erie, in a thick forest. Erie, until his abduction about four months ago, was a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension of the university.

The deceased was abducted by gunmen at his Igbanke country home and taken to unknown destination, leaving the distraught family members in agony since then.
His remains were exhumed yesterday by police detectives from the SCID after the arrest of two gang members of the kidnap syndicate. The suspects led the police to the forest where they killed and secretly buried the lecturer.
The forest is located between Orhionmwon and Igueben local governments. Until his abduction on June 16 and his death in the hands of his abductors, Erie was a palace chief at Igbanke. It was learnt that the police arrested about five suspects in connection with the crime, including a member of the vigilance group in the community. The vigilante is said to be the chief supplier of the seven-man kidnap gang with bullets for their operations.
