Gunmen kill four, shatter Baale’s son’s legs

Marauding gunmen have killed four people at Oko-Baba community, Ebute- Meta area of Lagos State.

They also shattered the legs of the Baale’s son, identified as Muheed, who is a professional footballer. Aside from the Baale’s son, at least 20 members of the community sustained varying degrees of injury.
It was gathered that Muheed and 20 others are now in different hospitals, battling to stay alive. According to members of the community, the masked gunmen stormed Odofin, Kano Jebba, Osalanke and Bello streets about 9:30pm on Monday.
They came in two vehicles and allegedly started shooting sporadically at anything that moved. Members of the community believed that the shooters had targets in mind before they went on the shooting spree.
The shooting continued yesterday. As of yesterday, policemen from Denton Police Station and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) retrieved the bodies from the community.
A petrified resident said: “The gunmen wore face masks and operated for close to an hour without any resistance from security agencies.” Yesterday, teams of policemen were patrolling the community. The Baale of Oko-Baba community, Alhaji Musbau Junadu, said his son was among those shot.
He said: “I left that area to go to my other house. As I was parking my car, my phone rang. I was told that gunmen came into the community and started shooting. I hurried back. I saw my son, Muheed. He had been shot in his legs. He is a footballer.
They wanted to render him useless. “He and others shot were rushed to the hospital for treatment. I don’t know who these people are or where they came from. One Kazeem died from the gun shot he sustained.”
It was also learnt that the shooters were repelled from attacking residents on Apapa Road by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes. The state Secretary of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mr. Musbau Agbodimu, said more persons would have been killed if his members were not proactive.
He said: “We heard that the gunmen were coming to attack residents on Apapa Road. We mobilised and together with the police, we stopped them. It was like a war zone. Aside from guns, the men also had machetes, but we repelled them.”
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said that two persons were killed, four injured and five arrested. Offor added that the ringleader of one of the cult groups, known as Sunday Terror, was on the run and already being trailed by the police. He said: “It was a cult clash between Eiye and Black Axe.
They clashed on Monday night, killing one person. Police got distress call. But before police could get there, they had killed one person and injured four, who were sitting at an adjourning building where the cultists went to attack. The place is Canon Street, Olufa Junction. “This morning (yesterday), this gang came for reprisal attack.
The Divisional Police Officer of Denton Police Station responded swiftly. When the hoodlums saw the police, they bolted. While running, they shot and killed another victim near the waterfront. Police arrested five of their members.”
