The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested four persons believed to
be narcotic specialists and recovered 18 sacks containing weeds
suspected to be Indian hemp.
The RRS Commander, Assistant Commissioner
of Police, ACP Olatunji Disu, said the suspects were arrested during a
raid in Lagos on Sunday.
According to him, the raid followed a tip-off from Governor Ambode
Akinwunmi. Disu said the gang had been terrorising Oyingbo-Otto and its
environs. He said: “The operatives, during the special operation,
apprehended four suspects, Quadri Jimoh (23), Tajudeen Busari (33),
Ukowa Udomma (34) and Yakubu Mudashiru (30), while one man later
identified as Olumide aka Aroso, the gang leader, who also deals in
various drug substances bolted.”
But two of the suspects, Jimoh and Busari, told interrogators they
were victims of circumstance as they knew nothing about the Indian hemp
found in the building.
Jimoh, who lives at 15, Atitebi Street, Oyingbo, said that he was on
his way to buy medications for his pregnant wife. He said: “I am a bus
conductor.
My wife, who is six-month pregnant, called me to buy some prescribed
medications for her. And on my way going to the pharmacy, I saw people
running helter-skelter and I also ran with them. But unfortunately for
me, I was caught by the policemen.”
