An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court Friday remanded a 28-year-old man,
Azeez Abdullahi, in prison for allegedly raping his 12-year-old
sister-in-law.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Anthony Araba, denied the accused bail and
ordered that he should be remanded in Oba Prisons near Abeokuta pending
advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Eigbejiale, had told the court that the
accused committed the offence sometime in May at 14, Omowe St., Saraki,
Adigbe in Ogun capital.
He said the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 12-year-old sister-in-law.
“My lord, the victim was raped by the accused and she is presently hospitalised,” the judge said.
Eigbejiale said the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
Counsel to the accused, Mr. Babatunde Omirin, urged the court to grant
him bail on liberal terms, saying: “He will not jump bail.”
The case was adjourned to September 11 for hearing.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old herbalist, Lanre Ologunagba, was on Friday
hauled up before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly
defrauding two women of N1.28 million.
The accused, a resident of No. 51, Ekun Bus Stop Road near Akure High
School, is facing an eight-court charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud,
obtaining money under false pretences and threat.
Prosecutor Pelumi Adejuwon told the court that the accused with three
others at large defrauded two women –Mrs Immaculate Ikechukwu and Mrs.
Mercy Ndenaemeni, of N644, 000 each.
He said the accused took the duo to his shrine on the pretext of averting sudden death in their lives.
The accused also threatened Immaculate and Mercy that they would vomit blood until they die if they told anybody, Adejuwon said.
