Operatives of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) have defended and
explained their attack on newspaper vendors at Ikeja, Under-Bridge
Roundabout on Tuesday.
According to KAI, the vendors defaulted on
operational guidelines and harboured people displaying others wares.
On
Tuesday, KAI officials swooped on newspaper vendors at Ikeja,
destroying dailies worth over millions of naira. The KAI officials were
said to have also seized some of the newspapers.
Speaking to our
correspondent, KAI’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Tunde Olusesi,
said that the vendors disobeyed operational guidelines given them,
thereby causing pedestrian obstructions and constituting nuisance on the
roads.
His words: “We have no problem with vendors, but they now
use the walkways to display different types of books. We asked them not
to sell on walkways, but they refused to obey. Besides, they have
resorted to harbouring vulcanisers, recharge card and food sellers in
their midst, causing further chaos.” Speaking on the operational
guidelines, Olusesi said KAI called the vendors and reminded them of
