DPO removed over assault on pregnant woman

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kemta Idi-Aba Division, who allegedly assaulted a 37-year-old pregnant woman in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has been removed by the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali.

The DPO, identified as Samuel Amos, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was also summoned to the state headquarters of the police command. The officer had on Saturday night allegedly brutalised the pregnant woman, Mrs Risikat Abosede Bamidele, leading to the loss of her nine weeks’ old pregnancy. But reacting yesterday, Ali said he had called for a discreet investigation into the incident.
In a text message sent to journalists, the CP said “the DPO involved has been removed and moved to the state headquarters”. The police boss stated that he got to know about Metro the incident from media reports. Ali, however, pointed out that a team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Special Investigation and Intelligence Department would handle the matter.
He said: “I promise to make our findings public at the conclusion of the case.” Meanwhile, the husband of the victim, Mr Tunde Bamidele, yesterday said he had formally petitioned the state headquarters of the command at Eleweran, Abeokuta over the matter.
