The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kemta Idi-Aba Division,
who allegedly assaulted a 37-year-old pregnant woman in Abeokuta, the
Ogun State capital, has been removed by the state Commissioner of
Police, Abdulmajid Ali.
The DPO, identified as Samuel Amos, a Chief Superintendent of Police,
was also summoned to the state headquarters of the police command. The
officer had on Saturday night allegedly brutalised the pregnant woman,
Mrs Risikat Abosede Bamidele, leading to the loss of her nine weeks’ old
pregnancy. But reacting yesterday, Ali said he had called for a
discreet investigation into the incident.
In a text message sent to journalists, the CP said “the DPO involved
has been removed and moved to the state headquarters”. The police boss
stated that he got to know about Metro the incident from media reports.
Ali, however, pointed out that a team headed by the Deputy Commissioner
of Police in charge of Special Investigation and Intelligence Department
would handle the matter.
He said: “I promise to make our findings public at the conclusion of
the case.” Meanwhile, the husband of the victim, Mr Tunde Bamidele,
yesterday said he had formally petitioned the state headquarters of the
command at Eleweran, Abeokuta over the matter.
