There was heavy shooting yesterday at the Ikoyi,
Lagos State after operatives of the Department of State Services
(DSS), yesterday, stormed the residence of a former Director General of the
Service, retired Colonel Kayode Are and attempted to forcefully eject him from
the official residence.
According to sources, the move to eject Are from the
residence was spearheaded by the present Director General Lawal Musa Daura, who
apparently ought to be residing there.
The tug of war between the two Generals got
tougher after Daura was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Determined to eject the former DG, Daura yesterday,
allegedly ordered some DSS operatives, who loaded themselves in two buses and
stormed Are’s home at 50, Alexander Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos State. The incident
occurred between 3pm and 3:30pm. The
operatives stormed the area, shooting sporadically. They allegedly made
attempts to break down the door.
Before the incident degenerated to the ugly level yesterday, it was gathered Are had already gone to the court to obtain an order, restraining DSS from forcing him from the quarters. The court order was said to have been served on DSS before the yesterday drama.
According to sources, one of the benefits of a former DSS DG is to live for life in their official quarters.
