Lion killed after escaping from Jos Wildlife Park

Fear yesterday gripped the residents of Jos, Plateau State when news filtered into town that a lion had escaped from the popular Jos Wildlife Park.

The Acting General Manager, Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr John Doy, who confirmed the incident, told journalists that the lion sneaked out of the cage around 8a.m. when it was being fed by its keeper.
He said: “The lion, which had been in the cage since 1972, slipped through the gate of the cage when it was opened for its routine feeding.”
Doy said he had already informed all security agencies to come to the park’s assistance. However, the news of the lion’s escape caused pandemonium among the residents of Tudun Wada, Dong, Federal and State Low-Cost housing estates who are close to the park. After hearing the warning, many people were running helter-skelter.
