The robbers not only robbed patients on admission and personnel of the health facility, Amazing Grace Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, they reportedly raped some of the female victims.
However, nemesis has caught up with two of the robbers – Demola David and Dare Oladunjoye.
They are part of the 10 suspected armed robbers arrested by the police in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area. David and Oladunjoye were said to have earlier shot dead one Alayande Oladipo on the same date.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed this in a statement yesterday, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday at Olisa Street, Ijebu-Ode. Adejobi said that the other eight suspects were nabbed after a fierce shootout between them and the police.
He explained that the police operatives attached to Igbeba Division acted on a tip-off that armed men were seen at Molipa/Ikanga area in Ijebu-Ode about 5:30am on Saturday.
He said: “The police operatives attached to Igbeba Division of the command swung into action immediately the information got to them and rushed to the said area where the suspected armed robbers opened fire on the police operatives who responded with heavy fire power which curtailed the men before eight of them were arrested.”
