Army, police violating laws, says Adebule

Worried by the flagrant disregard for its laws and regulations, the Lagos State Government has accused the military and police officers of frustrating enforcement of the state laws.
The accusation followed the arrest of about 15 military and police officers on Saturday for helping drivers to drive commercial vehicles with passengers inside to enable the drivers to evade arrest during the monthly sanitation exercise. Some were driving against the traffic during the sanitation exercise without any cogent reason.
The government has restricted vehicular and human movement between 7am and 10am every last Saturday to enable people to participate in the monthly sanitation exercise. Speaking on the rate at which the military and police officers violate the law, the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, who led the inspection of the sanitation exercise in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, said the officers were frustrating laws. She said the officers disregarded the environmental laws and encouraged Lagosians to do so.
Adebule said that was why many of them were caught helping to drive commercial vehicles to violate the laws in their uniform. She said: “We have gone round Lagos, especially Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government. We are dissatisfied with the level of compliance to the sanitation law.
