Female sergeant dismissed for selling baby

The Lagos State Police command says a female sergeant, Obotie Adesuwa, who allegedly sold a week-old baby boy brought to her police station, has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed Adesuwa’s dismissal at a briefing on Thursday, said the ex-sergeant would also be arraigned in court on Friday (today).

PUNCH Metro had exclusively reported on Wednesday that Adesuwa, who was attached to the Akinpelu Police Division in the Oshodi area, was arrested and detained by the X-Squad Section of the command after she allegedly sold the baby in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for an undisclosed amount.
It had been reported that the bubble burst when the mother of the baby, who is said to be mentally challenged, had returned to the station to demand for her baby and Adesuwa denied ever knowing her, before she eventually confessed to the crime.
The CP said the police would not condone acts of indiscipline from its officers, adding that the baby had been reunited with his mother.
