Truck crushes mother of three

A trailer yesterday crushed a mother of three to death on Calabar- Akpabuyo Road in Calabar, Cross River State.

The woman, simply called “Eka Rebecca,” was said to be a drug seller at Akpabuyo but lived at No. 7, Eso Street, Edim Otop area of Calabar.
According to a witness, the woman was being ferried on a motorcycle to Akpabuyo to sell her drugs when the motorcycle ran into a bad portion on road. The woman was said to have decided to trek some distance to allow the motorcyclist to cross the bad portion.
She, however, slipped and fell down just when a trailer heading to the United Cement (UNICEM) factory attempted to avoid a pot hole.
The trailer crushed her and she died on the spot. Her husband, Okon Isaac, who also sells drugs at Akpabuyo, said his wife wanted to allow the motorcyclist to manoeuvre a bad spot on the road and decided to trek.
He said: “They just called me and I went to the place only to see my wife lying in a pool of her own blood. We did not bargain for it but what can I do now?”
Isaac, who spoke with our correspondent on the phone, they had three children – Rebecca (seven), Abigail (five) and Rachel (three).
