Three pregnant women yesterday escaped
death in multiple auto accident on Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport
Road, Abuja when a tipper skidded off the road owing to break failure.
Traffic was grounded on the ever-busy road for several hours as a result
of the accident, which occurred a few metres to the Military Cemetery.
A witness, Alex Jacob, whose horticultural garden is not too far from the scene, said the accident, which claimed no life, was caused by the tipper. He said though the accident occurred about 11am when the volume of traffic on the road was still heavy, men of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and police were on ground to control traffic.
Another witness, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai, also said the accident was caused by the tipper with registration number, Abuja YAB 925 YT, when its driver lost control of the vehicle. He said: “I think the tipper lost its break and the driver could not control it again.” Rufai, who identified the driver as Idris, said the man took to his heels for fear of being arrested when he saw the impact of the accident.
