Party chief held for murder in Bayelsa

Police in Bayelsa State said they had arrested a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, Promise Meshach, for allegedly killing on Andrew June (22) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Trouble started when the two groups clashed at Oweigbene in Ekeremor Local Government Area on Wednesday last week when the APC members were returning from a rally.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Boswat, said during a clash between two groups of political thugs Promise Meshach reportedly hacked one Andrew June t death with a machete. He said the victim did not die immediately but gave up the ghost two days after the incident.
The PPRO said investigations were still on going as some other persons had been arrested in connection with the crime. The Director of Publicity of Bayelsa Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, neither responded to his calls nor a text message sent to his mobile line.
But an official in the publicity department of the organisation, who craved anonymity, said it was the APC members who attacked the PDP members before the latter retaliated. This, according to him, led to the death of the victim.
