Following the biting pang of fuel scarcity caused by hoarding of the
product by some filling stations in Ibadan and many other parts of the
state, the inspection teams of the Department of Petroleum Resources
(DPR), Ibadan Field Office, has sealed off no fewer than 50 filling
stations across the state.
The sealing and subsequent sanctions, which were due to various
offences, became inevitable as some independent fuel marketers in the
state took undue advantage of unsuspecting public by selling the product
far above the government approved pump price, the agency said.
Moving round the state Wednesday, the regulatory body sanctioned the
fuel station managers for alleged hoarding of the product, increasing
the pump price, thereby creating artificial scarcity. The offences also
included absconding from station when people queued up to buy fuel, and
delaying sales of fuel product till late in the night to make illegal
gains.
