Outrage over Lagos-Ibadan Expressway gridlock

  • Ogun patches failed portions

Several motorists and commuters trapped in the gridlock on the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have continued to bemoan their ordeal on the road. Scores of people were held up in the traffic for several hours on Tuesday while others practically slept on the road.
This came as the Ogun State government on Tuesday evening embarked on palliative work on bad portions of the expressway. A motorist, Mr Moshood Taiwo, who works at Ikeja, Lagos but lives at Mowe in Ogun State, described the gridlock as hellish.

He said: “I left office about 9pm yesterday (Tuesday) but I did not get home until 3am today (yesterday).” The social media has in the last couple of days been awash with stories and pictures of vehicles trapped in the gridlock. Yesterday, Mr John Awe posted on his facebook wall: “Thick, satanic traffic on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at 12:30 am! Nigeria is working!”
One of those who responded, Mr Ademola Oni, said: “The gridlock was caused by the bad spot after the long bridge to Arepo. The traffic was fair until 6pm when some ‘ghost Ogun State Govt workers’ arrived at the trouble and failed portion from Abeokuta with all their gadgets and materials – trucks, excavators, stones, granite, cement, sand and of course, policemen and gentlemen of the press.
