Three killed, houses torched in Abia communal clash

At least three persons were feared killed when violence erupted between members of Ohanku community in Aba South Local Government, Abia State and vigilantes.

The victims were a member of the vigilance group and two members of the community.
The development also led to the burning down of several houses by irate mob.
A witness said the incident occurred when the leader of the vigilantes, believed to be a native of Aguleri in Anambra State, arrested a suspected member of a terror group said to be terrorising the community and had robbed people on the road leading to the community.
According to a member of the community, who preferred anonymity, the vigilantes’ leader was said to have tried without success the previous night to arrest a member of the gang terrorising the community.
The following morning, the vigilantes went to the house of the suspected gang member of the gang.
It was learnt that the suspect, whose name was given as John, denied the accusation and even attacked the vigilantes’ leader. In retaliation, the man mobilised his members for a reprisal which led to the shooting and killing of the suspect.
