Police kill five robbers, recover money, laptops

Policemen attached to Elemoro Division, Ajah in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, yesterday, mowed down five robbers who were raiding occupants of a building in Ajah.

Policemen from Elemoro Police Station, where said to have responded to a distress call from the area and when they got to the scene, the robbers engaged them in a gunfire that lasted over 30 minutes.
After the smoke from smoking guns cleared, it was discovered that two security men, attached to the community being have sustained gunshot wounds. Five of the robbers were stone cold dead, while two escaped.
The gang is said to have been terrorising residents of Ajah, robbing and raping women.
A police source said: “The robbers were firing seriously. They even shot two security personnel there. The incident occurred between 2:20 and 3am.  They engaged police in gun battle for more than 40 minutes. Four were gunned down immediately, two got injured and two escaped. Later, one of the two that got injured died. We recovered two guns, phones, money and laptops. They were robbing from house to house.”
It was further gathered that police in Elemoro got information that the suspects were operating at Abule Parapo, opposite Awoyaya in Elemoro area of Ajah around 2 a.m. and raced to the scene, where there was a shootout. Two locally made double barrel shot guns, one cutlass and iron cutter were recovered from them.
The corpses of the dead and the injured suspects were brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.
The case was taken over by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) from the Divisional Police Officer at Elemoro, SP Sani Limawa for further investigation.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Offor, said he was still trying to get details about the incident.
