The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr
Solomon Arase, yesterday praised the team that tracked the bank robbers
who had been terrorising Lagos and Ogun states.
Arase also urged all police formations to up their game in the fight against crimes and criminality. Reacting to the arrest of the leader of the bank robbers, Kelly Fotor, the IG said it followed discreet, sustained and painstaking investigation.
The Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said: “Police operatives attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, smashed a deadly armed robbery gang and arrested four key members of the gang that killed a policeman, a nursing mother, and unleashed terror on commercial banks in the Agbara Industrial Estate, Ogun State last Thursday.”
According to Kolawole, the bandits, numbering about 20, had on November 19, laid siege to the estate as they robbed about three banks before escaping through the waterways.
She said: “The gang leader, identified as Kelly Fotor, was tracked down and arrested amid heavy shootout between the operatives of the Special Intelligence Response Team at Sapele, Delta State. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested hoodlums.”
While commending the police operatives for their commitment, diligence and professionalism which led to the breakthrough, Arase enjoined all police commands/ formations to up their game particularly in the area of intelligence gathering towards providing adequate security for the citizenry.
He, however, promised that all the fleeing members of the gang would be arrested soon. Arase charged the citizens to continue to support the police with relevant information. The IG reminded the people of the need to always report all suspicious activities to the police.
