Junior student kills senior over extortion

A 16-year-old Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) student Gaskiya College, Ijora-Badia in Apapa- Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos was stabbed to death yesterday by a school mate.

The deceased, identified as Farouk, was said to have incurred the wrath of his assailant, an SS1 student of the same school called ‘Snake,’ when he gave him a punishment for an undisclosed infraction.
Witnesses said the issued started on Tuesday and culminated in Farouk’s killing yesterday. It was gathered that Farouk meted out punishment on and extorted money from junior students, among them Snake. Snake reportedly laid an ambush for Farouk yesterday morning before he got to school and stabbed him with a dagger. Snake was said to have fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.
At the school yesterday, the mood was sober while students were discussing the development in clusters as parents were horridly picking their wards from the school. Efforts to hear from the principal of the school were thwarted by security guards who said they were instructed not to allow journalists or strangers into the premises.
“The student was killed outside the school premises. We have been ordered not to allow pressmen in or they should go to Education District 5,” one of them said. An official of the Neighbourhood Watch attached to the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there had been reported cases of senior students intimidating junior ones.
