Gunmen on Monday abducted a four-year-old boy, Stephen Kanu, in
Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The abductors were said to have
stormed the residence of the victim at Laderin Estate, Abeokuta and
whisked him away. It was gathered that the incident occurred about 5pm
when the boy was busy playing with the family dog at their home.
According to witnesses, the mother of the boy was busy with house
chores when the incident occurred. While narrating their ordeal, the
parents of the boy, Dr and Mrs Mucipay Kanu, said the gunmen pretended
to be visitors when they came. According to them, the suspects knocked
the gate while Stephen was playing with the dog and he rushed to open
it. It was gathered that the kidnappers seized the boy and immediately
took him into a waiting commercial car which was parked outside the
house.
As the suspects sped off in their unmarked vehicle, neighbours
immediately pursued them through Moshood Abiola Way, a few kilometres
away from the scene of the abduction. However, the kidnappers allegedly
shot sporadically into the air to scare away those pursuing them.
