A blogger, Mr Desmond Ike Chima, who was
arraigned last month by the police before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court
will appear before a Federal High Court today.
This is sequel to the withdrawal of application by the prosecutor, Mr Henry Obiazi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Chima, publisher of myemag. net, was earlier arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court. He was arrested by the police following a petition by Mr. Phillips Oduoza, the General Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA. The blogger was alleged to have been posting malicious publications against the person of Oduoza alleging that he was having an illicit affair.
According to Obiazi, the trial of the accused was an exclusive preserve of the Federal High Court, according to Cybercrime Act of 2015. The application was granted on Friday by the magistrate, Mrs O. A. Ajayi. Chima, who was taken into police custody by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Mr Omale Anebi, will appear before Justice Yunusa.
The accused is being charged over a felonious article he was alleged to have published on his blog. The complainant was not in court, but represented by his counsel, Ayo Durojaiye.
