Three persons were shot dead while five others received gunshot
injuries from people suspected to be members of rival cult groups in
Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
Those killed were a 35-yearold pub owner, Amaechi Ude, an indigene of
Enugu State but who resided in Abakaliki, Sunday Onwe of Ohaukwu Local
Government Area of Ebonyi State and an employee of Federal Teaching
Hospital, Abakaliki (FTHA), whose name could not be immediately
ascertained.
Ude was killed in his pub at Isiuke Lane off Norom Street, Abakaliki
while Onwe, the younger brother of Ngbo Central Development Centre
Coordinator, Ofobuike Onwe, was shot at a drinking joint identified as
‘Yori Yori’ located close to the Ebonyi State School of Health
Technology, Ngbo Court. The third victim was shot three times on the
head at the Abakaliki Township Stadium where he had gone to play
football.
The incidents happened simultaneously though at different locations.
Ude was sitting in his bar around 7pm when two gunmen who operated on a
motorcycle shot him.
